Created some Flash animation for Doug Vitarelli’s Where is Olifant? website.  Check out some quite charming kids stories about a dinosaur in Central Park, which can be read as a virtual, online picturebook.

Anthony Drexel Goldfarb by Dr. Seuss

For your Christmas list, consider the original Dr. Seuss Unorthodox Taxidermy sculptures, going for $1 million on Ebay from the Animazing Gallery.  Last I was there, the gallery had similar Seuss sculptures in their coat room downstairs (phone cam shots here) — which seem to be later reproductions.

Attended the Animation Show of Shows, put together by Acme Filmworks head Ron Diamond, just last week.   Standouts included a new 20 min. film “Maska,” by the legendary Brothers Quay, & on the other end of the spectrum, the new Looney Tunes Roadrunner short.  Ron Diamond introduced the night with some background on this limited engagement series — it’s provided him a way of sharing some of the best films that he finds in international festivals, yet don’t necessarily get Oscar nods and mostly aren’t available on the internet.   But he urged the audience to not “liberate” the films online (many offered for sale on dvd collections) which may seem like a contradiction these days. To drive the point home, the screening included “Love and Theft” by Andreas Hydake, a film that’s been online for a while but I’ve never quite had the patience to sit through.  It’s mesmerizing on the big screen.  Here’s the little screen version of it — perhaps try headphones and sitting super close to your monitor.

You know what is cute and super fun? This interactive coloring book music video for Au Revoir Simone’s song “Knight of Wands.” Go on, make something pretty!

Bill Plympton’s studio has cut together the animatic (aka rough cut) of the Guard Dog Global Jam, consisting of the style frames & any finished animation to date.  I finished my scene earlier this week, and it’s in there – check out shot 3!

The NY Times highlights molecular animations that are produced for/by biologists and have crossed over to the art world. Fascinating stuff.

Looking forward to this collaboration by two favorite artists – Michel Gondry & Julie Doucet – a book/film called  My New New York Diary, put out by Picturebox.  As the title suggests, it’s an update of sorts to Doucet’s classic My New York Diary.  Each tells the story of meeting one another in their respective media – Doucet through illustrations, & Gondry through an 18-minute short film with a live-action Doucet composited into her drawings.  More details at Cool Hunting.
